Suveen is a first-time candidate for the Albert-Eden Local Board. Brought up in the local area, he is a proud tau iwi migrant committed to upholding Te Tiriti while honouring his Lankan heritage.

Through co-founding Duality NZ - an organisation dedicated to enabling Sri Lankan youth thrive in Aotearoa by balancing their dual identity - Suveen built a community conscious of their whakapapa which has empowered their navigation through Aotearoa. He is also involved in the Lankan community as an event organiser, announcer and even provides traditional drumming at cultural events.

As well as community building and engagement, Suveen also has a background in a range of community and political advocacy with Migrant Pathways to Residency, Protect Pūtiki and Protect Mataharehare, from on-the-ground petition sign-ups to occupation and other forms of front-line protest.

Suveen now works as a Community Support Worker in Mental Health at Kahui Tu Kaha and as a Support Worker at Salvation Army Epsom Lodge. A keen participant and follower of various sports, music and community events, Suveen loves spaces that bring people together, creating that collective environment that builds our connection to one another.

If elected to the local board, key issues for Suveen include achieving equitable Te Tiriti-based outcomes across housing, climate and community engagement.

Suveen looks forward to working with City Vision to ensure Albert-Eden continues to thrive.
